Sauna heater stones from Finland. These are edgy, crushed stones. The stone type is Olivine Diabase. That is the best and the most popular stone for sauna heaters, as it is very durable to the heat cycles (heating up, cooling down), resistant to shock cooling by pouring water on them, and most important of all, they retain a lot of heat.

These are typically used in electric heaters, where they fit better between the heater resistors.
* diameter 4-6" (10-15 cm)
These are typically used in large heaters and wood fired heaters, where the rock space is more open as there are no electrical resistors in middle of the stones.
If you have a large electric heater, you can choose to purchase one or two boxes of the large stones and the rest the smaller. Lay the large ones on the bottom.

Remove the stones from the heater once per year, for inspection, replace any broken stones or stones with calcium or other deposit, and re-insert the stones carefully.
